Questions people actually ask.
Including the awkward beta-honesty ones.
Getting started
What is Claude Code?
Claude Code is Anthropic’s coding agent — a version of Claude with tools like bash, file editing, and web fetch. It is normally a CLI you run on your computer. We bridge it to WhatsApp so you can use it from your phone.
Why WhatsApp and not a web app?
Because that is where the phone already lives. No new app to install, no new login to manage. Type a message, get an answer, get on with your day.
How do I get access?
Message us on WhatsApp. We are in beta and onboarding by hand — that is intentional, it keeps us honest about who is using it and how. There is no signup form.
Pricing & billing
Why is the shared key 2× Anthropic's rate?
The 2× covers the infrastructure we run, the engineering we do on the bot, the support we give, and the FX risk we eat by quoting in pounds. If you have your own Anthropic key, BYOK bills you 1× from us (in £) plus whatever Anthropic charges your card directly (in $) — same total at the 1:1 FX assumption, but you keep your Anthropic relationship.
Where do I see my balance?
Send /balance in WhatsApp. It replies with your current £ balance and which billing mode you are on, plus a low-balance warning if you are close to running out. For a per-model breakdown of what you spent this month, use /usage.
Can I get a refund?
During beta, yes — at our discretion. Once we are out of beta and Stripe self-service is live, the formal refund policy will be in the Terms. Until then: message us, we are reasonable.
What is the £ = $ thing about?
We bill in pounds. We assume 1 GBP = 1 USD when converting Anthropic’s published USD rates. We eat the FX difference — it keeps your pricing predictable and our maths simple.
Beta & stability
What does "beta" mean for clawdas?
We ship updates daily. Sometimes that breaks things mid-session. We do not promise an SLA. We try hard to not lose your money or your data, but we cannot guarantee uptime or that every feature will work every day. If that is not acceptable for what you want to use this for, please wait — we will be out of beta later this year.
How often do you ship updates?
Most days. Sometimes several times a day. Usually small changes; occasionally a big one that touches how sessions work.
What if you break something mid-session?
We try to roll forward fast. If your session goes wrong because of something we changed, message us and we will refund the tokens it cost you. We do not bill for our own bugs.
When does beta end?
When the things that break stop breaking. We will not put a date on it. The website will lose the beta banner when we are confident.
Privacy & security
Where are my messages stored?
Briefly, on our servers — so we can debug and so your session has context. Default retention is 30 days for operational logs, which is also what the Privacy Policy describes. Billing records are kept for 7 years for UK tax compliance.
Who can see my messages?
Three parties touch them: WhatsApp (Meta) carries the transport, Anthropic processes them for inference, and HOKO CORP LIMITED (us) operates the bot. We do not sell anything to advertisers. Details in the Privacy Policy.
How do you store my BYOK key?
Encrypted at rest. We decrypt only at the moment we call Anthropic on your behalf. You can drop it at any time with /cckey remove in WhatsApp, which switches you back to the shared key.
Technical
Can I use BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)?
Yes. DM the bot /cckey <APIKEY> with your Anthropic key — we validate it against the Anthropic API before saving and store it encrypted. From then on Anthropic charges your card directly for the API calls and we bill you 1× the published rate (in £) as our service fee. Other commands: /cckey (no args) shows status, /cckey test re-validates the stored key, /cckey remove drops BYOK and switches back to the shared key.
Do you support group chats?
Yes. In a group, Claude only acts when you quote one of its messages or address it directly. This is on by default — we do not want it interjecting in conversations.
Which Claude models are available?
Sonnet, Opus, and Haiku — currently 4.6, 4.7, and 4.5 respectively. Use /model to switch. The default is Sonnet because it is usually the right cost/quality balance.
